Legislation Update

Dear Friends and Family,

Thanks to your amazing support of HB3412 last year, Governor Blagojevich signed the bill into law on September 11, 2007. Your huge outpouring of telephone calls and emails to your legislators made all the difference in passing the Taxi Safety Act of 2007. We were extremely proud when the official Proclamation for “Lyndsey’s Law” became a reality.

We are asking for your support once again. State Representative Renée Kosel is currently working on additional laws for taxi drivers. Representative Kosel introduced HB4837 and the Illinois State Legislature held its first reading on February 8, 2008. This new bill amends the Taxi Safety Act of 2007 and adds additional stipulations regarding the age of taxi drivers, licensing and restriction of driving privileges for certain convictions. We are so pleased that Representative Kosel is again working on behalf of stronger safety laws in Lyndsey’s memory.

Please follow the progress of HB4837 as it makes its way through the legislative process as you did with HB3412. Call and email your legislators as you did last year and urge them to pass this bill that will make these additional safety measures possible. You can locate your representative by clicking here and filling in your information. Our past success proves that a determined group of people working together towards the same goal can save the lives of those we know and love. We appreciate your working with us and are so grateful for your continued support in our efforts to keep Lyndsey's memory alive. Thank you again for your support and friendship.

Sincerely,
Ray & Betsy
