Legislation Update -

Dear Friends and Family,
Thank you so much for all those calls and emails you made recently to your State
Representatives in support of House Bill 4050 for safer taxi laws in Lyndsey's
name. Thanks to your efforts, House Bill 4050 passed
in the House of Representatives yesterday!
But we are not finished...the bill must now be passed in the Senate. Last
year, we were not able to get this bill passed in the House and Senate and we
hope to be successful this time. Therefore, we again need your help in making a
call or emailing your local State Senator to ask for his or her support of this
bill. If you don't know your elected officials, go to
Illinois State Board of Elections website, go to the "By address" tab and
type in your address to find your State Senator.
We do not want other families or loved ones to suffer a terrible loss like ours
when Lyndsey was killed by a taxi cab in Chicago. Your emails and phone calls
can again make the difference in influencing the passing of this bill! Please
take a minute to make a call or email your State Senator now to pass
House Bill 4050 on behalf of Lyndsey. We also ask
that you forward this website to everyone in your address book to increase
support for the bill.
The new bill Amends the Taxi Safety Act of 2007. It provides that a taxi driver
must be 21 years of age or older, must have a valid driver's license issued by
any state in the United States, must have had a valid driver's license for at
least 3 years, and must not have been convicted of certain offenses during the
immediately preceding 3-year period. Also provides that if he or she, after
becoming a taxi driver, is convicted of any of those offenses or ceases to be
licensed, the taxi driver must immediately cease operating a taxicab and the
prohibition shall continue until specified conditions are met. Effective July 1,
2010.
We are very short on time. Please call or email today in support of
House Bill 4050. Thank you very much for your help
and support!
